Our position on Millbrook Power Station
Whilst we have been consulted on the development of the power station at Millbrook, whether or not the development will go ahead will be determined by the Planning Inspectorate as a 'Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project', rather than us. We have a duty to our residents to make sure that the development is properly constructed and operated in a way which minimises any impacts on the environment or amenity. Our focus at the current hearing is therefore on protecting local interests and ensuring that we get the best possible outcome for our residents.
These hearing sessions form part of the initial stages of the process which will help to determine whether planning consent should be granted. They will also consider whether the operation of the installation complies with all relevant legal requirements. Through the controls imposed by the process, a high level of protection will be delivered for the environment and human health. Ultimately, though, we will respect the conclusions of the independent inspector.
We have proposed a strategic draft allocation in the Marston Vale for up to 5,000 homes in our Pre-Submission Local Plan, 2018. The Local Plan has been informed by public consultation and this proposal along with all the others in the Plan will be considered at the public examination later in 2018.
