Together, we can make a difference to children's lives

Think same sex couples can't adopt or foster? Think again.

Same sex couples make geat carers in Central Bedfordshire

Same sex couples already do an amazing job caring for children in Central Bedfordshire. We encourage anyone considering adoption and fostering to get in touch to find out more.

There are plenty of myths and misconceptions about who can't adopt or foster, such as:

  • don't own your home
  • you're single
  • you're in a civil partnership

But these aren't true! We're looking for people of all backgrounds. As long as you can give a stable and loving new start to a child or children.

If that’s got you thinking, or if you have any questions, then we’d love to hear from you:

"It has again been a pleasure, working with the team"

Here’s the experience of one male couple who have adopted twice with us:

"When we first asked about adoption, we wondered what social workers would make of a same-sex couple that wanted to adopt.

The social worker we met was warm, knowledgeable, helpful and positive about same sex couples adopting.

She reassured us, answered our questions and we walked out on cloud nine.

Finally, we had a chance to be parents. We decided that if we went forward, we wanted Central Bedfordshire Council as our agency.

The second time around, it has again been a pleasure, working with the team. They really care about the kids and you as foster parents and prospective adopters.

Our second little man had lots of health issues to overcome. We have a great support network, though; vital throughout the whole foster-to-adopt process.

What the council does is enable something wonderful. Kids get a chance in life and create very proud parents who can do anything. We never thought we could, but we have and it’s well worth it!”
